el•ee•mos•y•nar•y adj.
1. Of, relating to, or dependent on charity.
2. Contributed as an act of charity; gratuitous.
Lee Blessing’s play examines the delicate relationship of three singular women: grandmother, Dorothea, who has sought to assert her independence through strong-willed eccentricity; her brilliant daughter, Artemis, who has fled the stifling domination of her mother; and Artie's daughter, Echo, a child of exceptional intellect and sensitivity.
The women’s lives are presented in fragmented vignettes as they struggle to define themselves as individuals and as a part of a family unit. This poignant study of familial relationships highlights the human need for connection and forgiveness.
