SATE presents a reading of
Mary Shelley Monster Show
Sunday, May 3rd at 7:00 PM
Conceived by Ellie Schwetye and Rachel Tibbetts and written by Nick Otten, Mary Shelley Monster Show was originally produced by SATE in 2014 and remounted in 2016. After attending a screening of the National Theatre’s production of Frankenstein in 2011, Ellie and Rachel realized they had a mutual attraction to the Frankenstein story and wanted to explore the idea of creating a two-woman play. They brought in playwright Nick Otten, Ellie’s former English teacher, who helped them realize that Mary Shelley was the real story, and the creative process began immediately after.
The National Theatre is streaming Frankenstein as a part of its National Theatre at Home series for free on their YouTube Channel beginning April 30 through May 7.
Mary Shelley Monster Show’s original performing ensemble of Carl Overly, Jr., Ellie Schwetye and Rachel Tibbetts will perform the reading this Sunday. The original production was directed by Kelley Weber with lighting design by Bess Moynihan, set design by David Blake, costume design by Liz Henning, and video design by Michael Perkins. Kristin Rion was the production stage manager.
